By août 29, 2018Travel

Almost every traveller in the world wishes to travel to Thailand at some point of time in their life. However, whenever someone talks about travelling to Thailand, the only places they think about are Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya and some other neighbouring areas of the capital city. Apart from the regular cities in Thailand, there are lots of places in its northern region that can be explored too. There aren’t many people who think about going to Northern Thailand, which is a much calmer and much prettier part of this wonderful country. Northern Thailand is indeed a paradise for every traveller for all that it offers.

Which places to visit?

Every discussion about northern Thailand has to begin with its prime city of Chiang Mai. Chiang Mai serves as the epicenter for all the cultural activity in the area. It is the city that is at a striking distance from every other major destination. Chiang Mai offers great food, friendly locals and amazing places to stay. Then there is the beautiful city of Pai. A much smaller city when compared to Chiang Mai, Pai is a place for those who wish to chill out next to the river in green surroundings and fresh air with great food and amazingly friendly locals. Pai is an amazing destination if you wish to eat and breathe healthy.

Another great city in northern Thailand is Chiang Rai. Chiang Rai is a bustling city and is more of an access point for nearby areas. From here, one can escape to places like the nearby Khun Korn Forest Park that allows one to rest in the lap of nature. There are two more great cities to visit in Northern Thailand, Doi Inthanon and Mae Hong Son. Both of these cities are the best due to their cool temperatures and peaceful environment. They are nothing but a blessing for those who seek solace away from the crowd.

Is it safe?

Absolutely. Northern Thailand is home to some of the most amazing cities and the people there, are no less. However, it is always advisable to be vigilant and since you will be close to nature in most of the cities in northern Thailand, it is best if you carry a medical kit along with you that has basic necessities such as a mosquito repellent like ByeBugz etc. Apart from all that, there’s hardly anything that should concern you.

What to eat?

Northern Thailand has a particularly ethnic culture inspired by ethnic groups such as Shan, Karen and Lanna among others. The ethnic culture clearly leaves an imprint on the food as well. You will find amazing food such as kaeng hang le, a Burmese style curry and khao soi, a curry soup of Burmese origin among other delicacies. Food at all places in northern Thailand is inspired by the dominant culture of that area. For example, one can find lots of organic eateries and juice shops in Pai and restaurants that serve food inspired from Shan culture in Mae Hong Son.

What to do?

Well, there is a lot one can do while travelling to the Northern Thailand. From trekking, fishing and hiking to visiting hill tribes and volunteering in order to experience the local culture, Northern Thailand offers a great package.

Where to stay?

All the major cities in Northern Thailand have great options for those who need decent accommodation. However, in the smaller cities, one might have to make do with guest houses and smaller hotels. Booking in advance is usually recommended.

Northern Thailand is a heaven for those who wish to get away from the hustle bustle of the big city life. It offers more than what one can wish for. With amazing people, remarkable food and breathtaking beauty all around, Northern Thailand should be part of every traveller’s itinerary while in Thailand.
